Well, Nation, the day has come... the Yanks are lining up to cast their votes as we speak. The mainstream media has declared the race to essentially be over - however, the MSM is also responsible for "Dewey Wins!" and "NBC is ready to declare that Al Gore has won the state of Florida".
What I want to know from you all, is what do you predict will be the outcome of today's election? Specifically, I mean. How many electoral college votes will each candidate receive? The total number of points is 538 - it takes 270 to be elected President.
As a bonus, if you're inclined, take a stab at the balance in the Senate (100 seats) and the House (435 seats).

I'll readily admit to not paying NEARLY enough attention to the Senate or House races to make any sort of valid prediction, except to say that I suspect they'll both be won by the Democrats - how close they get to the "filibuster-proof" 60 in the Senate, though, I don't know.

A few quick thoughts on those predictions:
- The Colorado and New Mexico losses would particularly stick in McCain's craw.
- Missouri gets it right - as, seemingly, always.
- Ohio was lost to McCain, in my mind, as soon as he started talking about protecting the "rich" - ditto for Pennsylvania. These are people desperate to keep their $35,000 per year jobs, not their tax loopholes.
- Are there any voters more motivated than Democrats in Florida?
The way I see it, the biggest obstacle to the Obama camp today is going to be the perception that they're SO FAR AHEAD that it's not worth the effort to get out and vote, especially in areas with inclement weather. All they have to do to counter that, though, is point at the Florida mess in 2000, and ask the voters in question if they'd rather that Al Gore had won that election, if a few thousand more Floridians had bothered to take 10 minutes and vote.
Going to be a fun - and LONG - night.
Oh, and note to CNN: No matter how many times you say it, I won't accept, based only on your insistence and near-constant repetition, that you feature "the Best Political Team on Television". Say it all you want - a trademark doesn't make it so.
But I've got a crush on Cambell Brown. :)
